Principals Update and Upcoming Events
Welcome back to Term 2. I trust that the well-deserved break was rejuvenating for students, parents and staff. Especially, if you did manage to have a break from work as a family and better yet, got away for a holiday. Please find some immediately important announcements in the short newsletter below.
Anzac Day
We have just finished our Anzac Day Service/ Liturgy which was beautifully presented by Mrs York and 6 Black. A huge thanks and acknowledgement goes to them for being able to put this together on the first morning of Term.
Anzac Day is such an important part of the Australian culture; to recognise the service of all men and women who have served our country in the armed forces. While the date of Anzac Day marks the first occasion when this happened (Gallipoli), the day has long since recognised the many different times when Australian men and women have served others in hardship, conflict, and peace. Some, tragically losing their lives and others who have had their life since then significantly impacted. It is easy to think of these times being in the past but perhaps the starkest reminder of Anzac Day is that this service is happening now, every day and always.
Anzac Day is such a significant way to remember the act of service and love that is encompassed by those who risk everything for what they believe is right. This was obvious just now when a school full of excited voices (having just returned from holidays) were stilled in silence as the Ode was read, the Last post and Revile were played, and most powerful of all, a minutes silence was observed. It seems even our youngest of students instinctively know how important the Anzac tradition is to our nation.

Upcoming events and Updates
We are looking forward to a very busy but productive term. I have previously shared the attached calendar for the first few weeks of events and it is easy to see we already have some important events underway. The most pressing are listed below.
1. Canteen Open tomorrow - 27th April as a bonus day for Lunch Orders and snacks.
Given the pupil free day on Monday forcing hte canteen to remain shut, our Canteen will open for a bonus day tomorrow for any lunch orders (Via Qkr) and lunchtime snacks. The canteen will aslo be open Friday as per normal.
2. Athletics Carnival - Monday 8th May
An event has been published on COMPASS with the details of our Athletics Carnival on Monday 8th May. Parents are asked to access the events through the More tab in the bottom right of their app screen to provide permission for that event. Please note: This is a school day, and all students are expected to attend the carnival. There will be no supervision at school on that day as all staff members will be in attendance at the carnival.
This is a student parliament initiative. The students were seeking another opportunity to raise some money for Caritas - Project Compassion during Lent. However, the calendar was significantly crowded at the time and we negotiated next Friday as an opportunity to hold a Crazy Hair Day or as we are calling it "Crazy for Caritas". Students will be asked for a gold coin donation for the day or any collected Caritas donations you have gathered as a family over Lent.
Students will be allowed to wear their sports uniform AND the craziest of hairdos (temporary) they can manage. They will be excused from wearing a hat on this one day so they can wear their "hair in style". Again, this is temporary exemption. We are very excited that this event has come about because of the work of the student parliament and our Student Voice priority.
Thank You and have a great Week 1 (It is certainly a short one). We look forward to our first full newsletter next Tuesday.
