Welcome to the new year. I hope that all our families had a special time with loved ones throughout the Christmas/ New Year period and that the children have had a relaxing break throughout January, perhaps even enjoying a holiday away at some point.

I always love the new year. While I am not one for resolutions, I do find my mind turning to the routine and sense of purpose that school provides about mid-January. I begin to consider ideas and make plans for the year ahead. My diary is opened and with a sharpened pencil and an eraser at the ready, I begin with the hope of great things ahead. I hope that at least some of this excitement is building for our students readying themselves for the start of year next week. I especially hope this is true for our newest members who start their Kindergarten journey on Thursday next week, a little later than the rest of us.

The first newsletter of the year will be published next Tuesday but this mini-newsletter outlines some information better shared prior to the start of school. First, the image below clarifies the exact start dates next week.

A note about the “weeks” of the term

Term 1 is an 11-week term which appears long. However, staff have returned today and are completing annual induction training and procedures as well as preparing the learning spaces in readiness for the students to return next week. Technically our return today (Friday) is marked as Week 1, so students will begin the term in Week 2. I appreciate that seems a bit of a misnomer but wanted to make it clear to avoid confusion. 

Sports Days 2023 

We have elected to maintain consistency with Sports Days at St Benedict's in 2023. Given that our specialised sport coaches in Term 3 and 4 will be on Mondays and Tuesdays, we will maintain this all year to avoid any confusion of changing it mid year. Therefore, sports days are as follows.
