Welcome to the Week 7 Newsletter. We once again reach the business end of the Semester as much of our focus turns to gather assessment data and analyse current learning achievement and growth across all learning areas. Assessment is critical to inform next learnings. It drives the direction of the content and skills to be covered but it also allows the differentiation of that content and skill to meet each child where they are at in their learning to progress them onto their next steps.
Let's not forget to celebrate the Moments
There is a photo that has done the rounds on social media of a crowd of people viewing a particular spectacle and everyone in the shot was capturing the moment on their mobile devices to "remember" it. Except One. One member of the crowd had her eyes forward, her face lit with glee as whatever spectacle they were there to see was approaching. It has always stuck with me especially when I find myself capturing the moment instead of being in the moment. And while it is important to capture, it is critical to experience it. A challenge for us all is to balance the desire for one against the joy of the other.
I share this reflection because I was sent a photo today that absolutely epitomises that sense of being present in the moment. I do understand the irony of the moment being captured by the very device upon which i was reflecting. HOWEVER, the joy of the two students is so beautifully capturde it is hard to ignore
and impossible not to share. We witness many of these moments across the school day. This was just one that was captured.
Oh to be once again rolling down hills, burying ourselves in leaves and spinning till we fall over. But perhaps its safer to just look to the children to know how to be “in the moment!”
PS The autumn leaves can be messy and occassionally annoying but I wouldn't change a thing about this moment.
Semester Reports and Insight Goal Feedback Underway
Semester Report Writing – Teachers are currently readying the reports for publication. Given that we have already conducted the Parent Teacher meetings (Insight/ Goal setting meetings in Term 1) for this semester and intended to do the same early Term 3 for semester 2, we are delaying publication of the reports to Thursday of Week 10. (In the past we have allowed two weeks for those interviews and have published in Week 8).
Insights Teachers are completing feedback on the insights goals that were set last term. These will appear in the Insights Tab as they are completed, and parents can read them there OR they will also be automatically generated onto the bottom of the report for parent reference alongside the other aspects of the report we are to assess and report on. We schedule the next Insights Meetings early in Term 3 – Weeks 3 and 4. This meeting also serves to follow up on any clarifcations parents are seeking from the report about to be pubished.
In the weeks leading up to the publishing of the reports we will use the newsletter once again, to unpack what will be in them and how this will help to build an understanding of your childs learning in Semester 1 and porgress overall.
From the document below, parents will note we are at the end point of the Semester Reporting path that began with Meet and Greet Evening (to launch the year), Class letters home each term (to oultine the content in each KLA), Term 1 insights Meetings (for individual goal setting) and now the formal feedback and reporting (Academic Reports). The cycle begins again in Semester 2
Aspire Production - Disconnected
The annual ASPIRE production is a original production of music, dance and drama that provides a stage for excellence in the performing arts for students across the diocese. With instrumental, music, dance, drama and singing ensembles, more than 150 students from Year 5 - 11 are represented. It is a wonderful opportunity to see a live production just for the joy of such things and maybe even inspire students to consider their "name in lights" when Aspire auditions for the 2025 production start in Term 4.
As with last year, we have purchased 50 tickets to the Matinee production of the Aspire Prducition "Disconnected" on Friday 2nd August (Week 2 Term 3). While all students in Years 4 - 6 are invited, this is an opt in event so parents needs to inicate their intention. As only 50 tickets were purchased, it is important that if parents wish for their child attend that they provide both permission and payment as soon as possible via the COMPASS event to ensure their attendance (RSVP). Due to it being an opt in event, the cost of this excursion is NOT built into the existing school fees. Parents will need to confirm their child's participation with a payment of $25. The event will be closed once 50 tickets have been secured by students. Looking forward to sharing this exciting performance with the students once again. The event will be published Wednesday 12th June and reminders will be placed on COMPASS.
Have a Great Week,
Jules Mulhearn

Religious Education and Catholic Identity Update
The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
On Friday the 7th June we celebrated The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Jesus is at the very centre of our faith. And at the very centre of Him, there is His Heart.
So, everything comes back to Jesus' Heart!
Here in the Catholic School of the Maitland Newcastle Diocese our vision for Catholic Schools is the same “At the heart of everything is Jesus Christ.”
In his Sacred Heart we see both divine love and human love. In 2013, Pope Francis, said on this feast day that 'it is more difficult to let God love us than to love Him!' These are words worth thinking about.
The best way to love Him in return is to open our hearts and let Him love us, so our hearts and Christ's heart are constantly connected and communicating. He gave us His Heart first, so we can give ours to Him too.
For many Christians all over the world, the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the centre of our faith. It is in Jesus’ humanity, his life on earth, his death and resurrection that we come to know God and God’s love for each of us. We look to the teachings of Jesus as a road map in our life. Jesus taught us compassion, empathy and love for our neighbour. The heart of Jesus is brimming with love for all of us. Today and every day we can pray to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and ask for guidance, forgiveness and love.
I remember as a child when I stayed with my Grandma Collins she would have a candle lit with a hand written note listing her prayer petitions and she would always pray to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for these special intentions. Like my Grandma I invite you to also pray this week to the Sacred Heat of Jesus.
Yours in faith
Miss Michelle Collins

Polding Touch Football Championships
Best of luck to Archer Guihot who will be competing at the Touch Football Polding Championships in Parkes this Friday, representing the Maitland/Newcastle Diocese. This is indeed a remarkable achievement as earlier in the term Archer was selected in the Polding Boys Football Team to compete in the upcoming State Titles. An amazing effort by our sporting all-rounder.
